Service Description

A Mejance is a dazzling entrance piece designed to show off your personality, technique and versatility across different styles and props! In this course, you’ll train dynamic Oriental technique, learn the theory and musicality behind the mejance, and put it all together in a full choreography featuring veil, a Saidi with assaya section, and Iraqi section — crafted for maximum stage impact. Perfect for competitions, showcases and dancers wanting to level up their technique and stage presence. 💃🏻 Performance Opportunity Participants will have the chance to perform this choreography as part of the group competition at Hips Don’t Lie Festival 2026 in Nottingham. (Additional rehearsals for the competition group will take place after the course.) Join us in-studio at Danceworks or live on Zoom — all participants receive class recordings. ⸻ What we’ll cover • High-quality technique and hip amplitude — including some “industry secrets” • Advanced movements, interesting variations and layering • Travelling steps, fluidity, turns, kicks and signature combos • Musicality + rhythmology for mejance: how to choose the right movement for the right moment • Technique for veil, saidi with assaya, and Iraqi (no prior experience in these styles required) Although the choreography will be at an advanced level, options will be provided where suitable so dancers at different levels can progress confidently. ⸻ Included • 6 weekly classes • Course materials pack • Individual corrections in class • Optional homework with feedback • Class recordings • Access to a participant WhatsApp group (Note: Cost of 2–3 additional rehearsals for the competition group in February is not included.
